1.store用作“店”解是美国英语，相当于英国的shop，如at the store，book(-)store和drug(-)store是美国英语，相当于英国英语at the shop，book(-)shop和chemist's shop。
2.stores用作“百货商店”或“货栈”解是英国英语，不是美国英语。这词是复数形式，但有时当作单数。例如：I bought it at a large stores the other day. 和Our goods are kept in a stores. the stores有时指“这个百货商店”，有时指“一般百货商店”。在指“一般百货商店”的场合往往作the stores。
3.department store（百货商店）原来是美国英语，但现在在英国也通行。
